About

Heyo! My name is Laura Schley and I’m here to say, I like lots of stuff in a major way! I have many passions in life but if I had to name a few, it would include creating just about anything in the kitchen, tending to my indoor plants and tiny patio garden, making art, being outside whenever possible, and just enjoying the simple things in life.

My background is rooted in art and food (learning how to create and cook from both my grandmas), eventually leading me to college (I double majored in Art and Arts Management with a focus on painting, textiles and museum studies), and now my present (coordinating public art projects for the City of Green Bay and wildly baking in my free time). Whether it’s food, art, both, or some other passion, I try to approach it with thoughtfulness and joyful curiosity.

Whether it’s making the best of a failed recipe or enjoying the soft beauty of confectioners sugar dusted on a cake, life is rich and full and quick, and it is often the small commonplace elements that get lost along the journey.

The reason I decided to take this leap into the vast expanse of the internet is that I currently feel stagnant in life. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my life and am so grateful for what I have. But I can’t help but feel like I’m figuratively treading water creatively. So I’m taking to the internet and hoping that this website will get my creative juices flowing and nudge me in the right direction to truly make the most of life rather than just pass through.

The purpose of this space is about taking time to slow down and find the charm in daily life, to appreciate the mundane and the messes along with the beauty. To explore and celebrate the richness of nature through cooking, crafting and the everyday. Whether it’s making the best of a failed recipe or enjoying the soft beauty of confectioners sugar dusted on a cake, life is rich and full and quick, and it is often the small commonplace elements that get lost along the journey.

That’s what this space is about: collecting the rich treasures from nature, savoring all the beautiful layers of home cooking, sharing in gatherings with friends and family, and enjoying the warm magic of homemade items. This space aims to take in the here and now through every look, every taste, every texture, and scent. So join me on this journey to take time cultivating a more delicious and simple life.

Some quick facts about me:

  1. I love podcasts! I commute a little over an hour to and from work so podcasts are my saving grace. If you ever need any recommendations, let me know and I can rattle off a few dozen.
  2. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin surrounded by dairy farms and cheese and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  3. My grandma is just about my most favorite person in the world, tied with my mom. They are both immense inspirations to me daily (I’m sure as I try to develop this crazy thing, you will see some appearances from them both).
  4. I’ve been a vegetarian for about five years now. It started as a dare and then I just ran with it. I contemplate often about going vegan….but refer back to Quick Fact #2 (I’m surrounded by cheese and I’m weak).
  5. My dream car is a vintage Jeep Grand Wagoneer – and you better believe there are real wood panels on it! Someday maybe.
  6. Growing plants and being kind to the planet plays a huge role in the daily decisions I make.
  7. My boyfriend and I dream of owning our own home someday with a decent amount of land to do all of the creative projects we dream about (throw in a few sheep and goats for fun).

That seems like enough facts…if you just can’t get enough, you can follow me on social media, contact me, or just drop a comment on the blog.
